Recommended SAS Pitch Format

A pitch should be short and evocative, not more than a few pages long. Its purpose is to sell your idea to the developer quickly, convincing him that its worth his time and money to pursue. Everyone will pitch their ideas a little differently, but there are certain things that I want to see before I make a decision on whether to consider buying your work.

Through the document, you’ll see that there’s a lot of commentary about being clear why each piece is important to the story you’re writing within the SAS. Keep that in mind as you write your pitch. We don’t want SAS manuscripts that are just excuses to cram new bloodlines and characters into a PDF – everything inside must help the Storyteller bring a particular story to her players. If it’s important enough to mention in your pitch, make sure we know why it’s that important.

Synopsis

This is a short synopsis of the story idea, similar to the initial paragraph in the Treatment. Unlike that synopsis, though, don’t be coy here. You want the developer to know everything important about the story in a short sound bite, something he can quickly read at a meeting or paste in an email if he needs to.

Characters

List a very short description of each of the significant Storyteller characters in your story (or the pre-generated player characters, if your SAS will provide them). Don’t worry about mechanics or a ton of detail here – just explain where the character fits into the story and why she’s important.

Crunchy Bits

If your story features new rules for the game, explain them briefly here – nothing more than a paragraph or two. As part of that explanation, mention why these new rules are important to the story.

Scenes

If your story breaks down into three discrete acts, write a paragraph or two about what happens in each act. If not, then just write up a few sentences on each individual scene, with maybe a paragraph or two explaining how it all ties together if it’s not clear.

Aftermath

Write down some notes on different ways the story can wrap up, or any plot threads that you want to leave dangling for Storytellers to use in future stories in their chronicle.

Other Notes

Anything important about the story that’s not covered anywhere else can be mentioned here.
